SURREY, B.C. – October 30, 2025 – Adera Development hosted the PURA Grand Unveiling & Public Art Celebration, marking a milestone for Surrey Central’s first wellness-focused, mass timber community.
The event brought together City of Surrey Councillors, artist Crystal Przybille and members of the community for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the unveiling of River. A stunning new public artwork that symbolizes Surrey’s creative spirit and cultural evolution.
Installed prominently along 105 Avenue, River captures the movement and vitality of the Fraser River, reflecting both Surrey’s transformation into a vibrant, connected city centre and Adera’s vision for building sustainable, wellness-driven communities.
“River adds to Surrey’s growing public art collection and symbolizes the city’s civic momentum toward culture-led development,” said representatives from Adera Development. “It’s an honour to collaborate with local artists and the City of Surrey to create spaces that celebrate creativity, connection, and community.”
Commissioned in partnership with the City of Surrey, River pays tribute to the wild and unfathomable Staulo, Lhtako, Tacoutche Tesse, ?Elhdanoqx, Sto:lo (Fraser River). A life-giving force that has shaped this region both geographically and culturally.
Through flowing forms and a natural palette of blues, greens, whites and browns, the piece captures the river’s enduring movement, power and transformation, mirroring Adera’s commitment to designs that balance nature, wellness, and innovation.
The unveiling event was a celebration of collaboration between city, artist and developer, underscoring Surrey’s growing investment in arts, culture and placemaking. Following remarks from Adera’s leadership, the City and the artist, guests enjoyed tours of the PURA community and connected over shared appreciation for Surrey’s creative evolution.
As Surrey continues to grow as a hub for housing, transit and culture, River now stands as a lasting symbol of renewal, wellness, and connection. A proud reflection of Surrey’s creative future.
