City of Coquitlam and Adera mark a new benchmark for sustainable, transit-oriented living

COQUITLAM, B.C. – October 16, 2025 – Adera Development is proud to announce the completion of SÕL, a six-storey, mixed-tenure mass timber community located just steps from Burquitlam SkyTrain Station. Bringing together Adera, the project team, Mayor Richard Stewart, and City officials, the ribbon-cutting celebration marks a significant milestone in sustainable and wellness-oriented urban living.

Built using Adera’s proprietary SmartWood® system, SÕL combines the strength and sustainability of mass timber with the warmth and comfort of natural materials reducing embodied carbon while enhancing livability. Designed by RH Architects with interiors by Portico Design Group, the community offers 92 one-, two-, and three-bedroom condominiums alongside a companion rental building of 109 homes, all united by nearly 13,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor amenities, including fitness centres, co-working lounges, rooftop terraces, and children’s play areas.

“Today marks a proud milestone for Adera. A celebration not only of these beautiful buildings, but of the teamwork that brought them to life,” said Mackenzie Biggar, Vice President, Development & Sustainability at Adera Development. “This project truly reflects innovation and collaboration between the City, our consultants, trades, and partners. Both buildings were constructed using Adera SmartWood®, our proprietary mass timber building system, delivering high-quality, sustainable, low-carbon homes. Together, we’ve shown how innovation and collaboration go hand in hand and the great things that can come from it.”

“I applaud the innovations at Adera. Watching a company take charge and move forward in a direction that’s making a real difference,” said Coquitlam Mayor Richard Stewart. “The results we’re seeing from mass timber and Adera’s leadership in this space are impressive. On behalf of Coquitlam City Council, I want to thank you for building these homes, for putting your faith in our community, and for helping shape the future of housing through this kind of innovation.”

The project underscores Adera’s commitment to developing smarter, healthier and more sustainable homes. Communities that promote wellness and connection while setting a new precedent for low-carbon construction across the region. Adera continues its mass-timber momentum with Kestrel, a new SmartWood® community now selling in West Coquitlam.
