LEED Canada for Homes
Adera is proud to have our Assistant Project Manager as our new LEED Professional, and only one of four people in Canada to have obtained this designation.
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through the creation and implementation of universally understood and accepted tools and performance criteria.
LEED is a third-party certification program and an internationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. It provides building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance.
LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health:
- Sustainable Site Development
- Water Efficiency
- Energy Efficiency
- Materials Selection
- Indoor Environmental Quality

REAP
REAP stands for Residential Environmental Assessment Program, and it is a made in BC rating system that sets a new benchmark for sustainable residential buildings at UBC.
REAP standards were created by the University of British Columbia’s Sustainability Office to build healthy and stable living environments in all their developments.
REAP is the ‘organic certification’ of the BC building industry, promoting healthy and sustainable homes. It is similar to the internationally recognized LEED rating system, but customized to suit local conditions. REAP distinguishes itself from LEED because it pushes builders to encourage the homeowner to make green decisions and change their behaviour.
Developers at UBC are encouraged to use innovative heating systems, local materials, high-efficiency appliances and equipment that minimizes energy and water consumption as well as waste production.
